Internet Buying - Earlier In Day Or Later?

Posted by whimziequiltz on 125 Points
In general, are Internet customers more likely to buy earlier in the day or later in the day?

I have an AdWords ad with a daily budget that tends to max out click throughs each day. Because I hit the budget limit, when my ad appears higher I max out earlier in the day. I can lower the cost per click, which lowers the ad, and have it disappear later in the day.

I get essentially the same number of click throughs either way.

Because my sampling is so small, its hard for me to tell which is better for my product (custom quilts) so I thought I'd ask about in buying habits in general.

So, which is better - to get customer eyes earlier or later in the day?

    Hi Whimziequilts,

Actually, when you lower the max cost per click you should be getting more clicks if your daily budget stays the same, so something isn't right there.

What is better, earlier or later? It depends on the product. In your case with a consumer product, I don't think it matters as people shop at work and at home, I just wouldn't turn it on too late at night.

Typically what you will find is that your competitors budgets will run out early in the day like yours so this leaves the evening hours as primetime where you can max bid for less. This is why you should be getting more clicks for the same budget.

You might want to try manually dayparting, meaning pause your account until later afternoon, then it turn it on fullblast until midnight Google time (PST)and see what happens.

But it gets better: Google will soon be offering dayparting. Like everything Google, don't hold your breath, but word on the street is it is going to happen.

One last thing - for one day you might to crank your budget wide open to capture all possible clicks. Monitor it regularly, by the hour if you can, and see what kind of stats you get. You might be pleasantly surprised at the action you get.

Thanks everyone for their advice. Looks like I'll be able to keep my CPC lower and still get the buying customers I was looking for.

(Pepper Blue - Because Google's system seems to get as close as it can to my budget, sometimes going over and sometimes staying under, and because the difference between the prices per click is only like $0.10, that's why I get about the same number of click-throughs even though my budget stays the same. Custom quilts are a small market, so we're only talking 4-5 a day anyway.)
