I think that both are good ideas for promotion and SEO. Your business and target market should determine what format you use. I am personally more fond of articles.

Do both. blogging easy and worth the effort. Creating quality content should be your goal, not quantity. At least one article and two blog posts per month. Do more if you can but only if the quality doesn't suffer.

When creating a blog for adding new content, you should make sure the blog is part of your main domain such as www.mysite.com/blog. Most times this is the best method, espcially when growing your site with helpful and keyword rich information.

Another proven method we use at Big Oak is to coordinate new pages with blog postys, articles and, if possible, press releases. Let me give you a real-world example.

A client of ours, https://www.danforthdiamond.com started selling a new metal called paladium. To help promote this we wrote the new landing page about the metal and the jewelry you could buy using palladium. When then wrote an article about the pros to palladium and distributed it across the Internet with links pointing to the new page. We then wrote and distibuted a press release announcing the new product line. Finally we posted more information on their company blog about it as well. Everything had links to the palladium landing page with the term palladium as part of the text link.

Results? Do a search for 'palladium jewelry' on google and you should see Danforth as the #3 result. #1 on Live.com.

A holistic approach is always best and be sure any articles you write are on your site and/or blog before you distribute them.
