Best Way To Sell Designer Womens Clothing

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
After a 10 year absence I am re-entering the market selling higher end designer clothing for women which consist of dressy separates such as jackets, pants, etc. Altho they have received high praises because of their uniqueness and quality. The sample line is complete and local sewing shops are ready to produce them. PROBLEM: DON'T KNOW HOW TO SELL THEM.

I would like to use a qualtiy rep with some experience selling to high end stores but don't know where to find a one who would take on a newcomer. Any suggestions? I also have a website but not with my line of clothing.

Capitalize on your strengths. I also have a rep agency, very established, and I just signed with a newbie-- who is in exactly the same position you are- -a ton of experience in the field, great product but NEW. As an experienced principal, you know what a rep needs. They will pioneer a territory-- providing you are giving them the support they need. An agency puts their reputation on the line, and multiple sources of income can be damaged if you aren't everything you say you are.

You imply you know some -- but not ones that would take on a newbie. Ask them to still look at your opportunity, and if they decline, ask them for referrals. Go to store contacts you have from your previious experience and ask who might consider your line. Ask who the "good reps" are. Finding a good rep is like finding a good employee-- not easy. But in many ways harder than an employee, as you are partnering with a company, vs one individual.

    Good Luck, Carol

If you can't get a rep you can sell yourself by exhibiting at various tradeshows like Magic and Traffic. There are many different shows. Smaller retailers tend to go to these events.

You could also sell to local boutiques to get started. As your brand gain popularity you can expand to the shows.

Thank you for your response. I will take your response and go to local boutiques. I'm a little timid about my work but rationally think I need to do it before anything else.

I hope I can help you with something too.

My son started out by doing painted shirts while he went to design school. When he stared his mens line he started doing shows. They use to call him the marketing designer.

He gave design up a few years ago to concentarte on retail stores. he has 4 now. But he and my daughter still go to all the shows to buy for the season.

    Good luck with your line.
