NYSE uses most marketing forms available to them, including advertising campaigns.

    "... NYSE spent $15 to $20 million on a 60 second T.V. commercial spot"

Basically stock exchanges exist in a competitive environment; therefore they market themselves as any competitive business would, uniquely to their environment.

    Description of NYSE’s marketing guy

Michael H. Cohen, 41, was named vice president, marketing communications for the New York Stock Exchange in February 2001. Mr. Cohen is responsible for the Exchange's advertising program, Partnership program, corporate identity, Education progams, merchandising and various other marketing and branding initiatives, including nyse magazine.

About three years ago I attended a one-day conference for entrepreneurs, angel investors and venture capitalists. One of the event's sponsors was NASDAQ, and they had a representative there speaking on a panel, as well as meeting as many entrepreneurs as she could.

I thought that was a smooth marketing move -- start talking to target companies early in their lifecycle.

The free t-shirt wasn't bad either!
