How Often Should We Submit Our Website?

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
We submitted our website to the search engines 3 months ago. I have been reading some articles about SEO and some people say a website needs to be submitted every month, others say every 6 months, others just once a year because otherwise the search engines will penalize the site.

Could anybody please provide some insight?

Thanks

    Isabel,

Submission to the engines has little to nothing to do with your SEO. There are three keys to good SEO -- just three simple things:

    1. Pick the right keywords.
This is the foundation of SEO. It looks like your site-translations site is focusing on terms like "spanish translation service". Excellent choice. However, you do have a good deal of competition on this term, so it will not be easy to achieve a top ranking.

    2. Edit your website content to reflect the keywords you selected.
How can a search engine is about a particular topic if you don't tell it so through your site content? How often you use a keyword in the content of a given page is important too. We call this keyword density.

Let's take this page for example: https://www.site-translations.com/services-interpreting.asp. It looks like the keyword you're targeting on this page may be "spanish interpreters". However, that term only appears in the title tag and the meta keywords tag. That's not going to be enough. Be sure to integrate that term into the body copy as well.

    3. Build or solicit inbound links.
This is actually the NUMBER ONE way to get ranked in Google. If you doubt this, do some searches and read about "googlebombing". You can get links from directories, blogs, partner websites -- all sorts of places. These will help you get a higher ranking as well.

That's it. :) It's a simple formula, but it works!

Depends how you are submitting. If you are using an automated submission system, every three months would be fine.

If you update content with new, fresh content, and it's been a 'reasonable' period of time since your last submission (and each search engine has its own definition of reasonable), you could submite more often.

You might consider using an XML sitemap to encourage spiders to visit and rank content, as well as its an efficient way to submit content to SE's.

SEs find sites in days. There is no need to submit. In fact, I'd be weary of outfits promoting this. You may need a few backlinks if you're having difficulty getting your page(s) indexed. But you don't have to work hard to get indexed.

If a site is having difficulty then there could be a technical reason which would need to be diagnosed.

Rankings are another matter but do not relate to submission.

Sitemap submission is another issue. Its benefit is arguable but I do this for most sites - especially on dynamic sites. My take on this is that it's a good thing.

Since Google is the one most people are concerned about, implement Google's Webmaster tools and you can see when your site was last indexed. Lots of other good information to be had.

I agree with Greg. If there are links into your website from other websites, there is no need to submit. it is a myth and a scam.
