    Add a search box.

Link related articles to each other (currently, the tree navigation makes it hard to find useful information)

Use multi-level menus to quicker navigation to areas of your site.

Your URL's should include the keywords you are optimizing your web site for.

    ../ad_branding_lessons/index.htm etc. etc. etc.

Site map is a most definite must, preferably one that can generate XML and TXT files for submission of site map to Google and Yahoo.

Fill your page titles and meta tags with keywords, and be sure that those key words score high in your content too (but thats a basic no brainer).

Can you include a system where others can link to your content? It would be nice if you had an automated system that would cross link articles. I might like to link from my blog to your article is it was an excellent example of an ad or had relevant information to a topic I was blogging about (inbound links are key to growing 'authority' on a topic or subject.

You might consider using tag clouds on each page. Tag Clouds are a nifty way to load your site with key words you are using, or generate new combinations you haven't thought of based on your naturally flowing content. Spiders LOVE tag clouds as it saves them a lot of hard work, and the site itself ranks it's keywords (if the tag cloud software is well written).

Again, much of this hard work and hard coding would be done automatically or with just a few clicks of a button if you have the chosen the right content management system to administer your web site content. Those CMS systems with SEFfriendly generation make it oh so easy. Just managed to get a client's site on page one of Google for her selected keywords using nothing but content, site mapping, and effective keyword strategy WITH the right cms.
