In addition to a SWOT, you may consider the reverse, a TOWS. It will give you a different perspective.

Also, consider a PEST analysis and evaluating Porter's 5 forces.

You can find tutorials and informative articles on this website. Use the search box to your upper right.

    I hope this helps!

    Good Luck!

There is no real template. Basically, what you're looking for is information that you can compare (competitor-competitor, and competitor-your company). That's why SWOT and the 5 forces model work so well. They're comparative. You'll be able to see how your strengths and weaknesses (which allow you to or hinder you from taking advantage of the opportunities that are out there in the market) match up to those of all of your competitors. You can even do this in Excel for now, and then pour it all into a report, with a presentation in Powerpoint.

Michael Porter is the king of competition. Read up on what he writes about competitive advantage.

    Best of luck!

Cheryl, don't forget to click on the link to the Search Questions feature on the right side of this page, then try using the keywords "competitor" or "competitive." You'll discover that some variation of your question has been asked AND answered at least a dozen times.

As Jett also recommended, you should also use the Search box in the heading of these pages to pull the articles and FAQs that MarketingProfs has published. It's a separate search from the Know-How Exchange question archive.
