Online Business Card & Postcard Printing?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Shouldn't a website that specializes in a particular field be ranked higher than those that aren't? My company, premiumcards.net has been up and running for a year now and my ranking is quite low. We specialize in business card and postcard printing and we rank high in stocklayouts when we only carry a small amount of layout designs. My goal is obviously to rank high in what we specialize in, but I think I'm missing something. I have tried so many tools with no luck. Have any thoughts? Here is a link to my site. https://www.premiumcards.net

    Dear kindmind,

You have a lot of work to do on the seo level.

There are three main blocks in SEO:
on page optimization : most important= title & meta description.
website optimization : internal linkbuilding, general linkbuilding, code optimization, sitemap...
off page optimization: linkbuilding & deep linkbuilding

To give you a full evaluation, I need to look everything in detail and that will take some time.

I'll be back when I can give you specific data for your website.

    Best regards
    Sweet Lies

P.S.: you can start by reading some more about these three types of optimization.

The search engines rank pages not sites. So a competing page on a site with authority could beat a page on a focused, niche site. However, all factors considered, the more relevant site should rank better. In your case your site is not optimized well and you have very few backlinks. So if, for example, Google had to choose between an unknown, unpopular site with good content or a highly popular site with authority then they will rank the authority site better.

Some site factors weigh in rankings such as (in order or importance but not limited to):

    Off Page:
    -Backlinks/authority

On Page (These elements are page related)
-Content (Title & Description Tags and page copy)
    -Code

There is more to this but this represents the basics.

Your site is in desperate need of backlinks. You currently have 138. I haven't checked the competition but I am fairly certain they have significantly more than that.

Another factor is your code which could be cleaned up considerably. Moving all of the embedded CSS and JS as well as inline and HTML styling to external files may provide some help (though admittedly minor). But, with the exception the above referenced factors, SEO is a tolerance stack. A number of small changes, when aggregated, result in positive ranking shifts.

What this condenses down to is that if you sell online professionally you either need to be a SEO or you need to hire one. I learned this the hard way many moons ago when I started an ecommerce business. If, when I started 7 or 8 years ago, I had hired a good SEO who knew how to sell online (not all do) I would have minimized startup costs.

    I hope this helps.

If you haven't already, try (for free): https://www.websitegrader.com/

The answer to your question, "Shouldn't a website that specializes in a particular field be ranked higher than those that aren't?" is NO. The higher ranked sites are there because they have been deemed more trusted/authoritarian. How? Mostly because other trusted sites have linked to the site.

Web tools like Website Grader can help you to identify how you compare to your competitors and give you some ideas to improve. A SEO pro can save you a bunch of time to improve your ranking, since they know what works (and doesn't) to boost ranking in your field.

I do agree with the first reply posted by kind mind. The site is not properly optimised and lacks appropriate meta tags and back links. The meta tags on many of the pages need to be revised as per the existing content on the respective pages

You did a good job with the design as it is easy for users to understand what service you are offering if you get them there.

If you can do it yourself, I will suggest making the above suggested changes or get a firm specialised in SEO to do it for you. if all is done well you will see improvement.

    Regards
