What's the goal of this process for your company? Why are they (suddenly) needed now?

I disagree with Phil G; I feel that customers do feel that your vision/mission statement is important. It may not be the first thing they look for, but it does represent who you are and what you represent - it is your company's foundation.

A vision statement is the ultimate goal you are trying to achieve; it is more than a statment of wanting to "make a profit". A mission statment involves the steps you plan to take to get to that vision. It entails your workers, your core values, your resources, etc. All companies need a solid foundation, and that consists of you vision/mission statements and set of core values. Go to any large company website and (most) will have this located somewhere on their website.

A tagline can then be developed after you have completed your vision and mission statements. My advice would be to research other companies to get examples.
