Benchmark Seo Rank - Advanced Web Ranking/other?

Posted by annj on 250 Points
Hi
I want to benchmark & run ongoing reports on organic SEO ranking for Google, but they only offer PPC tools. I've been recommended 'Advanced Web Ranking' but it looks complicated, does anyone have any experience or other recommendations.

Google Webmaster Tools (free) will let you see your pagerank on many of your most popular keywords (ie, the ones that drive the most traffic to your site).

Two good ranking tools I use:

Paid - WebCEO (https://www.webceo.com). If you just want to track your rankings then the basic version will be fine.

Free - Rank Checker from SEOBook.com (https://tools.seobook.com/firefox/rank-checker/). This is a plugin for Firefox (https://www.mozilla.com/firefox/).

That being said, rankings are only a single metric you should be tracking. As anc said above, you should implement a web analytics solution like Google Analytics (free) to understand the volume and quality of the traffic referred by the search engines, and of course the actions the visitors take on your website.

I'd highly recommend the free service that dmoak recommends from SEObook.com (especially the plug in) assuming you have a small number of keywords. If you're tracking a thousand, you may want to move to something paid.

However, in the FF plug in for SEOBook, you simply have to put in the keywords once and it'll remember your list each time you need to run it. You can export results as a CSV to track your progress over time.

Take note, however, that this plug in is not accurate for Google right now for some reason. It doesn't seem to be pulling correctly from the Google API. This was mentioned on the SEO Book forum, but hasn't been addressed. Basically, it'll show no rankings for virtually anything for Google for some reason now.

Another free service, although not doing all bench marking that you asked is www.websitegrader.com. It will give you some useful ideas of ways to improve your pages to get some more traffic.

I also recommend Google Analytics. Depending on your webhost you might be able to install Urchin (another Google product?). Urchin is like Google Analytics but can be installed on the server and allows you to track individual users as they click through the site, giving you a better idea of where they get stuck or end up.

Thanks, I do have Google Analytics set up but I'd like to also track and hopefully show improvements for the all-important metrics that are most obvious (to the CEO), that is where do we stand on our top keywords... Your thoughts are most useful!

Go with WebCEO then as dmoak suggested. Worth the small cost, plus you'll get suggestions for improving automatically from the software.

I recently started using Ranking Manager https://www.websitemanagementtools.com/ after having tested a number of applications.

Results seem fairly accurate and the reports are flexible. The support I've received has been excellent.
