Article Submission And Content Page

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
If we submit an article in the article directories with a link back to our website, with the same content as in one of the pages in our website, will Google spiders consider it as duplicate content and penalise us? In normal curcumstances, spiders consider it as duplicate content, but as we are having a link back to our website, will Google consider it as a legitimate practice? Thanks in advance.

The article won't be identical to the one on your website. The content of your article will be the same, but the article directory's page will no doubt have lots of other content surrounding your article, which will help.

In an interview Matt Cutts, the head of Google's spam team indicated that If you are planning on syndicating content which is identical to content located on your web site the syndicated content should link to the original content's web page.

By doing so, Google's team will be able to distinguish between the original and the duplicate and value them accordingly. This doesn't' work flawlessly but I'm sure you comprehend the intent.

The question you should be asking is whether this benefits you. It is unlikely that the visitor who reads a syndicated article will want to click through to an identical page on your site.

Workarounds? You could do a rewrite and include a slightly different version on your site and link the syndicated articles to a separate landing page on your site. One that is meaningful to a prospective visitor.

Another option would be to wrap the original content within other content to dilute the weight of the duplicate content.

It is also common to undertake rewrites for well-ranking article directories. Placing original content on the right site could help you to rank well for a term that you would not otherwise be able to crack.

    I hope this helps.

I would not send the whole article but just the first part. The chances they will visit your website to read the rest of the article are more likely and the content is not 100% identical. Make sure your original article is indexed by google/search engines before you send it to others.
