    Welcome to "The Fourth Mast"

[picture of a 4 mast Spanish Galleon]

[identity play off sail or a flag on a mast]

    Background.

A galleon was a large, multi-decked sailing ship used primarily by the nations of Europe from the 16th to 18th centuries. Whether used for war or commerce, they were generally armed with demi-culverin.

The name "Treasure Coast" is derived from a number of ships of Spanish galleons (especially those of the 1715 Spanish treasure fleet) that wrecked off the coast during the 17th and 18th centuries. Artifacts from these ships have still been recovered today, both by amateur and professional treasure-hunters.

The most distinguishing features of the galleon include the long beak, the lateen-rigged mizzenmasts, and the square gallery at the stern off of the captain's cabin. In larger galleons, a fourth mast was added, usually a lateen-rigged mizzen, called the bonaventure mizzen.

Because the Fourth Mast was located at the rear of the top-deck, it developed a reputation of being the "water cooler" of the Spanish Galleon during "sailing hours". Numbers of officers would gather here out of the view of the captain to meet, gossip and organize the sailors. Positions were traded and performance evaluated. It was where the information vital to leadership ad decisions were communicated without the fear of embarrassment of not knowing, or openly disagreeing with a ship's officer.

    Phil & David:

I thank you both. Such wonderful ideas. I think I will use the "Resource Provided By" line from Phil.
And David...what can I say? You are amazing! Are you a local or a history buff? I forwarded your entire responce to the management of the company. I am duly impressed! ...And I love the Fourth Mast.

    Thanks to all, Susan

Thanks! No, I'm not a history buff. Just good at doing research quickly...love the Intertubes...

Regarding names/taglines in general. They should strive to be unique, memorable and hopefully remarkable. Because the opposite isn't. And it makes it easier to track your relevance on Google...

Here's the story we developed for our company name:
