Company Acquisition And Communications

Posted by larry.sebbens on 50 Points
This is the first time I will go through a company acquisition. We are acquiring a small company in the near future. It obviously will be a positive message in this market as we are a smaller investment firm and doing well enough to make an acquisition. Interested in tips on what others have done to communciate this via releases, ads, etc.

    Larry,

As you consider the immediate external communications (based on the suggestions you will receive from other Marketing Profs members), I would also strongly encourage you to begin to consider how this acquisition will be received by your current employee base and the methods you will use to connect your new employees to the organization they will be joining.

For example: How will your culture change as a result of this acquisition? Will the best of both firms be incorporated or will your existing company culture prevail? What will Day One look like for your newly acquired employees? How will you communicate internally to answer the many questions employees will have?

I've witnessed many failed acquisitions as a result of the employee details being overlooked. Too often the focus is on the financial aspects of the deal and, as a result, the culture suffers. Happy to discuss this offline in greater detail with you.

    Tim

    In addition to the above:
Do not get confused! If you have been a success in the past, you probably know what clicks in your org, and which is why you are in a position to acquire.
Your company employee, stake holders should have ample amount of faith in you and your managers that future will be on your instincts of success. Lead on, worry little and live well. Best of luck!
