Social networking. Each time I launch a new blog post, I tell my followers on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, SavortheSuccess...

It's a great way to generate buzz.

Perhaps the best marketing is to have great content. Entertain. Educate. Inform. And if on subject, be outrageous. Controversial, in a smart way. Be an opinion leader, rather than a follower.

Great content will get passed along.

Include social bookmarking options on your blog (the html code is easily accessible at addthis.com).

Post comments to other blogs and include your url in the signature of your registration.

I like to use good video content from YouTube to set up a story/idea.

Try to be unique. Use Google's keywords tool to see what people are searching for in relation to your blog's subject matter. For the search terms where there's currently little content, start to work those (though if you're in an established subject matter-that may be hard to find).

Building relationships with other bloggers (including the better known ones) in your blog category can also help. Maybe offer a well known blogger a chance to guest blog (once you have a decent size subscriber base). Eventually, he might return the favor.

You could use Adwords, but the cost would likely not get you a positive ROI, depending on what you're blogging for.

There are also tools like Blog Rush, but not having used it, not sure of its effectiveness. I've seen people with a lot more tech savvy than me point out some issues with using tools like that.

Mircoblog on Twitter with captivating thoughts (think toward the longtail) and include the url to your blog post that speaks to those microblog thoughts (you'll have to use TinyURL.com to convert longer url's).
