Vendor Co-op $ Maximization & Management

Hello: I’m investigating the levels and structure of vendor co-op and other marketing development funds for an apparel retailer and am looking for some industry standards and best practices.

For example: What are the levels of vendor contribution in branded apparel? – For which activities? How can we determine how much money may be ‘left on the table’ and how to best increase the amount of vendor funds received?

I’m getting the Red Book of Co-op Programs for published rates by supplier, but how much more is realistically available from various vendors and what are the best and brightest ways to get and leverage it for fixture investment, ad/promo support and margin improvement?

Any suggestions for a retailer on how to structure and optimize co-op dollar programs would be appreciated.
