Recommend A Good Web Host

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
If you host your website with Blue Host, you know that your site has been down all morning because their servers have been down for over three hours now as far as I know). The cause? "The room that the servers are in got too hot. The technicians are working on cooling it down." What's worse is that "there is no ETA on when the servers will be back up."

This is unbelievable coming from what is supposed to be one of the top hosts on the market. Apparently, they have all of their servers in one "room."

I am looking for a recommendation on a good web host, with either remote redundancy or sufficient internal systems to prevent what now looks like may be an all day outage, if not longer. Thanks!

How much are you willing to spend per month?

Well, while I understand that having your site down because of something like this is very frustrating, and I also understand that there are low-cost hosting companies that have not had this happen to them, I also believe very much in that you get what you pay for.

If you're willing to spend only $15 per month on hosting, it couldn't be all that critical to you.

I don't mean to be less than helpful, but if you are that concerned about your site being up, perhaps you need to migrate to a dedicated server of your own.

Granted, the cost is 10-15x what you're talking about, but our machine has not been down for one second since we went this route -- December 2001.

Good luck with the search. If you find a real bargain out there, please do share with the group.

We use Rackspace and pay $230 per month.

I think I could trim that a little bit if I shopped around (which I have), but frankly, the customer service is absolutely exceptional.

I ask them questions all the time, many of which are not really 100% their responsibility to answer, and never once have I had a bad experience. They are fast, accurate, and polite.

I have used webhost4life for 5 years and never had an issue. There are reliable and affordable hosts. You get what you pay for is true - but mostly for bandwidth and other features.

I've had a bad experience with Blue Host as well and had my budget web hosting go down (with another host).

I would recommend you have a backup host ready to transfer your site to if such a problem occurs (which can happen with any host).

I'd recommend the following hosts for their decent pricing and exceptional service:

    UnitedHosting: https://www.unitedhosting.com/

    HostGator: https://www.hostgator.com

I'd recommend Rackspace as well as Inbox_Interactive suggests. I use their email hosting and their service is great. Although due to their web hosting pricing, I would only suggest it depending on the type of business you have.

If you're just hosting a few pages and not some kind of web application you may not need a dedicated server.

You may want to check www.plugsocket.com

It's based in UK and depending on how much space you need, they start at US$ 25 per year.

Completely agree with previous user "Inbox_Interactive". We are in the UK and are also using, rackspace email hosting.

We could probably get a cheaper deal somewhere else but their support and CS has been great, we haven't had any major issues but some bits and pieces here and there. Without doubt we will stay with them for a while longer.

But I recommend that you browse around for hosts and that price shouldn't be the ONLY factor when you make the decision.

    Cheers.
