Brand Identity Dev Workshop/workbook Needed

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I am helping a statewide educational program develop a brand identity for stronger marketing potential -- name, slogan, tagline, iconic logo, key messages...

I have participated in a number of branding exercises but never led one. We have no budget for a branding guru to lead this effort and have not succeeded in finding probono support.

I am seeking to purchase an excellent, state of the art, organizational brand identity development workshop/workbook to help me lead this effort. This group is not experienced in branding and really needs step-by-step, A to Z tools to make this project work successfully and efficiently. We will have student support for the research and graphic design phases, but we do need a proven structure to move forward.

I would be most grateful for any advice you can provide.

Thank you!

    KB,
I have been doing exactly what you are asking for during the last 10 years at the University of Chicago.
Even if I'll give you all my teaching materials, your audience will not benefit from it.
You might as well read to them from a book, (and there are 100's of them...) but you will not get results.
This topic is only deliverable with a good teacher/trainer/mentor and its not going to get results immediately.
Let me know if you want to discuss. [phone number deleted by staff]
    Good luck, IG

    Dear KB,

Question: Do you have research data to help direct brand development?
Do you have any budget at all?
    Thanks

    KB...

    Couple of questions:
How big is the group you need to lead?
How soon is the exercise to be held?

I rather agree a book is not your best answer, but hopefully can at least point you in some good directions for taking what you already know via your experience and translating it into leadership.

Branding is not as easy nor "fun" as it looks, but I am guessing you already knew that :)

    Thanks,

Thank you so much for your feedback so far.

Our goal, as you know, is to find a workshop/workbook designed by a branding professional to help us (members of a program awareness raising committee) lead this program branding effort "in-kind." Team members are all accomplished management and communications professonals who have been involved in branding efforts but not actually led them. So far we haven't found such a product but we continue to look.

We are not a big corporation or organization. We are a program within a state agency that has no funding for brand consulting but does have lots of smart people ready to do their best and learn in the process.

We are exploring getting permission from a renowned branding expert to use his materials (now in a book but reproducable) probono, as long as we clearly recognize his contribution. We are hopeful that this approach will fly.

Again, thank you and do let us know if you produce or know of a step-by-step brand development workshop/workbook that you think might be helpful to us.

This site is terrific, and we are impressed by our first effort using this forum.
