Corporate History Exhibit Help

Posted by mlang on 250 Points
Hello- I have the task of putting together a Corporate History Exhibit for my company's new building and need some benchmarking help. Has anyone done such a project before and does anyone know of companies in the CT area that have such exhibits that would be willing to give a tour? This would be a permanent exhibit, so my concern is not looking dated within a few years.

We have two completely different divisions under one roof, both with a multitude of product lines, so my gut tells me a standard timeline exhibit will look disjointed. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

    Mary,

I don't know of a local CT company, but I know of one in Oklahoma who produced corporate history exhibits for QuikTrip's 50th anniversary recently. They were designed as a permanent, large-scale installation and turned out beautifully. They incorporated large graphics, video, and produced segments.

The company is called VisualFX, in Tulsa, OK. Web site is 4visualfx.com. No, not my company :) I've worked with them numerous times, though, and their work is always top-notch.

    Best of luck,

If this were my project, I would visit some museums to get a sense of how they have displayed historical timelines. For example, I am sure there are some excellent museums fairly close to you dealing with inventors such as Thomas Edison.

I am in the Washington, DC area, and the Smithsonian Institution has many fine museums which can certainly offer very professional examples about how to display historical content.

I have worked in several projects, but not here is the US. I believe museum visits are a great option, keep always in mind that being something permanent, people will get used to it fairly quick.
Budget permitting, you could think about changeable images to refresh it every certain amount of time.
I developed a company history mural for a TV station and used a very simple line for the chronological info, with a basic plain background and interchangeable frames/pictures of artists and programs that were relevant to a specific period...
    I hope it helps

Dear telemoxie and alrd69 - thank you both for your responses and excellent suggestions. While working on a different project on a milestone product anniversary for me, my junior graphic designer came up with a banner sign that is very simialr to the concept of the mural. Once I saw it, it helped me visualize how I can execute this company wide project given the number of walls I will be dealing with in the new building.

Thank you everyone, your ideas and links helped me with the research and benchmarking that led to a starting concept. I appreciate all your help.

    Best regards,

    Mary
