Book Cover Company Branding Task

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I work for a Book Publisher who published academic books in Pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and medicine. My task is to come up with a way to make these covers have a unified look. Basically I am branding the books and creating a corporate identity, but not too obvious where it looks like I am creating a template as a shell.

Anyone have any genius ideas? Much appreciated.

Yes, I have a genius idea: Give the project to a professional graphic designer (or two) and see what they come up with. I've done this a few times (for book covers) and it works!

In one case, we had two different designers work on the project, paying them each $250-300 to submit 2-5 ideas in concept form. Then we'd retain the creator of the concept we like best to finish the job, and pay an attractive bonus.

Of course, the project required that we prepare a very tight creative brief and stick to it, so that the designers didn't feel like we were jerking them around or changing the rules midstream.

It worked great, and both designers appreciated the process and the opportunity.
