Finding A Trademark

How do I use the USPTO search engine and what other methods are availabe to insure a trademark is available without paying lawyers $$$? I'm a small business with a tight budget. Thanks!

    If the trademark is an important issue for you, then you need to involve a lawyer. And if it's not important, then just do a cursory search and run with anything that seems to be clear. The worst thing that can happen is that the owner of a conflicting mark (that you failed to identify) issues a cease and desist order, and then you simply stop using the mark.

    It depends on how much risk you're willing to take. If you are willing to be your own trademark attorney, then you're obviously not terribly concerned about the risk.
