Existing Product Branding

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
I have found an existing product which i would really like to take on as a project, re-brand and sell within the UK. However i'm unsure of where i stand legally, do i need to buy the rights to this product before i can do this? can i just get the manufacturer to manufacture the products and put them in my new packaging? if i do need to contact the person who owns the rights whats the best way of tracking them down?

any advice appreciated.

You don't need a branding advice here, you need a good attorney.
When you say "re-brand" you mean "rename" and you are not really talking about a brand, you are talking about a product.
There's a fundamental difference between the two.
Make sure you know that difference before you start spending money.

If the product is already being sold in the UK, you need to talk with the distributor.
If the product isn't sold in the UK, then become the distributor, and talk with the manufacturer about your ideas for packaging/branding.
