Market Research Exit Opportunities

Posted by Anonymous on 45 Points
I was just wondering what careers one can transition to after a stint in market research? Do people often move to more general marketing careers after working in market research? What exit opportunities are available outside of marketing for people who worked in market research?

it depends...i have yet to see a CEO who came from a stint in market research, but after an intermediate stage as consultant, I have seen several colleagues addressing more strategic marketing issues and ultimately make it back as CMO

Agree w/koen.h.pauwels. I've seen market researchers move into sales positions, marketing management, appraisal and even on to their own consulting gig. Just depends on where your interest(s) and motivation lie...

    Dear Bubba,

David Ogilvy worked in market research before he started his
ad agency. In fact, he didn't begin his career in marketing and advertising until he was 38 years old.

From market research there are all kinds of directions you might
go in: brand management, strategic planning, media buying, and
    so on.

    I hope this helps.
