Branding Virtual Conference.

Posted by k.sapen on 250 Points
Hi all,
We are 30,000+ members information technology association, which needs to brand a new online conference for next big thing after internet. The event is considerably new entrant to already crowded space, but inaugural event was a great success.

I faced this issue when we ordered banners and also printed materials and other stuff. Perhaps this information could be useful during logo re-work and articles writing.

I would appreciate your help and tips on choosing the right message and image. Let me know if more information is needed.

thanks,
KS

We would all like to know what the next big thing after the internet will be. My good friend Dan says it will be full body transport just like they have in StarTrek... "Scotty, beam me up"

I would go for space themed images, maybe something reminiscent of the Big Bang and have a theme such as:
    *** New Directions
    *** Beyond the Internet
    *** New Horizons

You might include a "futurist" from outside the technology space and/or a science fiction writer as one of your keynote presenters.

Let us when it is so we can participate too.

Best of with the event, JohnnyB.

Thanks for suggestions on styling. The Next Big Thing (at least for me) is cloud computing. We are pretty much on track with organizational point, but what would look for is the "ideological" part, similar to one of Apple's early branding idea in their SuperBowl clip (where they pitch on opposition to Big Blue Corp).

Since the space is crowded, you need to showcase how your technology is better/different. As for a phrase, how about "Be There Now" (which plays off the spiritual phase, "Be Here Now")?

    Jay,
    Thanks for response.
Indeed, the space is crowded and there's a tendency to have more competition in coming months. Some of our competitive advantages are our association's huge user base (I think it is the largest in the world for cloud computing) and thought leadership.

'Be There Now.' is good and universal at the same time. Perhaps it'd need some more specifics for stranger to understand what it's all about.

OK, I have a couple of suggestions for you. I am thinking more along the lines of a name proper, rather than a statement style of name.
1.) FuturTech 2010 (change year as necessary): I think the meaning is fairly obvious here.
2.) BluSky Net : as in 'blue sky thinking', plus, guess where clouds are?
3.) AGCon 2010: Ag is the chemical symbol for silver, as in clouds are lined with....
    4.) ArgenTech: "Argent" means silver..see #3
You could ad in years as seen fit.
Just a few off the top of my head. Hope you find use for them, or perhaps they will spur on some creative thoughts of your own.
    Best of luck to you!

    Thanks tkaakso,
We already have a name for the event, that been used and accepted pretty well. It is Cloud Slam. I'm thinking about proper image of the event, that conveys its essence and 'super idea'. A good example could be an association of Harley Davidson associated with image of an 'outlaw'.

    regards,
    KS
