Me Branding

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am taking a course at school focusing on Social media, Internet marketing and Self Branding. I am very interested in this course and I am seriously thinking about making social media field choice when I graduate next year.

I was wonder how to get more involved with the internet? beyond the typical FB, twitter. I have been looking through blogs and considering setting up my own blog about the different things I find interesting on Social media or advertising.

The problem is I no little about blogging and from the stuff I have looked at so far I feel a little overwhelmed. I would have to set aside at least an hour a day if not more to read even a piece of each blog I have found and I feel I have only scratched the surface.

I also feel by creating my own blog I would only be taking from other blogs and website I have seen and then adding my own opinion to it so is it worth it?

all this fuss is over wanting to be more visible online.

Thanks for reading! :)

I can tell you're young because you seem bothered by the necessity of spending a lot of time in order to learn something new. I guarantee you every KHE pro in this forum still spends countless hours learning. If you don’t like it, find another field. To those of us who love marketing, it's not work, it's play. So, first, take a good hard look in the mirror and answer the most fundamental question - do you really want to do this?

You're instincts are great and you have picked an exciting place to jump in. Social media is the hottest topic in marketing at the moment. Some question whether it is over-hyped, and the answers is probably yes, but time will tell (check out AdWeek's story, "Does Social Sell" bit.ly/dhgSP5 ).

Start blogging now, especially if you have the bug. If you can write this question, then you can write a blog. There are few truly original thoughts in any field, so don’t lay awake at night worrying about that. Express your opinions in your own words, and when you borrow from someone, give them credit.

Here are a few suggestions of some great blogs to start with:
Guy Kawasaki, "How to Change the World"
David Scott Meerman, "Web Ink Now"
JohnnyB, "The Cynical Marketer" (just kidding, that's me)

Social media is all about participating in the right conversations. The conversations have moved to places like FaceBook and Twitter. You still have to have the right audience and a message that resonates. Remember, do it for the fun of it and all the rest will fit into place.

    Best of Luck, JohnnyB.

I am truly Passionate about marketing. I did not want to come off as this is a time consuming endeavor and where is the short cut button to social media. I am trying to learn something new every time I surf the internet these days and this site in particular has been very helpful.

    Thanks for your responses
