Private Label

I am reading Nirmalya Kumar's Private Label Strategy and making a report about it, i am now in Copy-Cat Strategy for Private Label.. My question is, What are the rules in copy cat labeling? how far should this product copy the manufacturers product as private label? is it limited to the colors scheme only? or the use of font? what are the limitations of copy cat branding?

There are no rules. Who would set and enforce them if there were?

The only "rule" is to not be found guilty of infringement of copyrighted material or registered trademarks, and have to pay damages. Ditto for patent infringement, of course.

Now, as for ETHICS, that's another issue.

    Dear seballosns,

The golden rules of private label material are:

Change the title, the subheads, the layout, and the graphics. Add an audio version. Create a sales video. Add value. Offer transcripts of any audio products. Make the content different. Add bonus material.

Rinse. Repeat. Do this and you'll be ahead of 95 percent of other PLR buyers.

    I hope this helps.
