Keyword Stuffing

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
Have you ever been accused of keyword stuffing? I know a friend of mine who writes articles and he thought of having a 2-3 % keyword density. Is this a good idea? If I'm not mistaken, ezine only accepts articles with 1 % keyword density. What should be a good keyword density then?

Keyword density isn't something that we bother with. If the keyword is included in the copy and it doesn't appear to be written for search engines, then the frequency is probably right.

In the past we've checked countless numbers of top-ranking pages and the density of those pages is much lower than what everyone purports to be the "rule" and the number changes based upon the industry and query.

Write the article for readers, not search engines. Include the keyword phrase in the page title and headline. Include it in the body but, depending upon the length of the copy, don't include it more than a few times. If it reads unnaturally (have someone help you) then you've overoptimized.

@jay: Thanks for the links. If I summarized what they said, around 3% keyword density is the "ideal". Still, quality of content should be high as it is very crucial to get your page a good rank on google.
@excellira: You've got a good point there. We should write for the audience, not just for search engine purposes. Thanks!

3% is not an ideal density. If this was an important metric, the ideal density is dependent upon the keyword phrase and the industry.

A spammy, shady industry may have a keyword density of 15%. A reputable industry may be as little as 0.3%. I've seen some key phrases where the top sites didn't have any body copy only a title tag.

To really determine the optimal density, you should perform an exact match search and calculate the KD of the top sites.

    However, the ROI isn't there.

Really? So keyword density really doesn't matter? I'm getting confused with all these stuff...
