Do Bit.ly Links Help Organic Ranking?

Do bit.ly links on Twitter help organic ranking? Or are they actually redirects?

    Twitter links are nofollowed so they, in theory at least, pass no PageRank.

    Forgot to mention...

    bit.ly links are 301 redirected so they do pass PageRank if PR is available to be passed.

    As I previously stated, they do pass PageRank if the page they are contained on has PR to pass.
