Forwarding Url

Posted by Anonymous on 35 Points
Over the years we have secured related domain names in case we need them for the business. If I have them auto forward to my “live” website does that assist in value when that domain is used through a search engine…possible bringing it up sooner, higher on the list?

    These are two separate issues.

If you had bought a number of domains and attempted to boost the PR of one by rolling up all the domains into it via redirects then that could represent a liability from a rankings perspective.

However, if you registered a few domains from a registrar and are redirecting them to the primary domain then this shouldn't affect rankings either positively or negatively.

Please note though that the redirected domains won't rank since the redirection prevents any pages from being detected on the redirected domain by search bots. The only benefit to this tactic is that you can pick up some direct traffic through misspellings and keyword requests and of course, you control the domains.
