What Is The Value Of A Keyword Link...

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
What is the value of a keyword link to your website from a published press release on a well ranked, content related, website?

I'm not talking about the SEO value, I think there is a clear value here, but I mean dollar wise. Is it worth a $1.00, $2.00, $5.00...more? I would like to hear from anyone with an opinion.

Thank you.

There is no simple answer to that question. The value of a link depends on your own margins, your price points, your ability to convert clicks into sales, the frequency of purchase in your category, the quality and relevance of the link, and probably a dozen other factors.

The answer, if there were one, would probably range from something less than $0.01 to $100 or more.

Why are you asking? What would you do with the answer if we could produce one?

Well, it's difficult to separate the SEO value from the link value. There are at least two core reasons to obtain a link. One being the SEO value and the second is the direct traffic the link can produce.

In the latter case, what is a visit worth? To you that would likely be answered by conversions and revenue.

In the former case, there are myriad variables including the PageRank of the page the link resides on, the number of outbound links on the page, are the links nofollowed, is the page relevant to your page/site, how the link was obtained, the location of the link on the page, whether you get your keyword phrase in the anchor text, etc.

There isn't a good formula that I know of.
