Obtaining Seo Benefits From Wordpress Blog

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
We are an IT company and we have a lot of our technical consultants blogging on various IT issues. Each of them has their own blog on Wordpress with a URL something like: www.consultantABC.wordpress.com

We are interested in utilizing their blogs to help our company website with SEO. What can we do to use those blogs to increase traffic to our corporate website and inbound links?

Since the wordpress blogs are by default no-follow, we are having them install the "do follow" plug-ins, so the links they already have to our corporate page will be considered in SEO. They also have links to the corporate twitter and facebook page.

We do not have a corporate blog on our site.

Thanks a lot for your help.

One benefit to having the blogs on one domain is that they contribute mass. Larger sites have historically performed better than thinner sites.

It won't help from a PageRank perspective though. Whether the blogs are on subdomains or the primary domain, the only way to pass PageRank is through linkage. If you link from the blogs to your main site, you will be passing PR (provided the pages linking out have PR). Deep links-links to interior pages can help those interior pages. The links can be editorial links or navigation or both.

I agree with KSA that keyword research would help the effort. Writing content around the research will help.

Also, I'm not aware of WP setting links as nofollow by default.

I recommend having "Pet Photography" in your name as Sierra Luna offers no connection to what you do (which is fine) and this will help enormously for SEO purposes. Then you can use the tagline to highlight your differentiation and value proposition of being passionate about capturing the unique personality of pets and photographing them in their home/usual environment. Thus, how about something like:

    Sierra Luna Pet Photography
Capturing Your Pet's Unique Personality at Home, Outside or in Studio

You could also substitute "animal" for "pet" to broaden its appeal:

    Sierra Luna Animal Photography
Capturing the Charisma of Furry Friends Wherever they Roam

    Alternates:

Sierra Luna Pet Photography [probably a bigger market for pets]
Capturing the Charisma of Your Furry Friends Wherever they Roam

    Sierra Luna Pet Photography
Capturing Animal Magnetism at Home or Wherever They Roam
