How To Run A Facebook And Twitter Like Campaign

Does anyone have any experience running contests through Facebook?
I am needing some insight on running a Facebook like campaign. Verbiage would read "Follow us on Facebook and become our 3,000th fan to win an Apple I-Pad." Has anyone ever ran a campaign similar to this? What are some proven campaigns run on Facebook and Twitter to increase followers?

    Depending on your product and target I suggest you use Facebook ads. I have successfully generated tens of thousands of Likes (Fans) for clients.

    I would also suggest you say something like "when we reach 3000 likes we will select one of our likes at random to receive and Apple Ipad."

    If you don't use Facebook ads you will have to rely on other media such as email, print and so on. I highly recommend Facebook ads.
