I've no plan here to burst your bubble, I just want you to stop wishing and make it real.

This means taking responsibility. It means taking control. It means making an effort. It means doing the work. It means investing in your own future. It means sitting down and listing your priorities.

There's a pattern in the paragraph above: you'd do well to at least look at it and then think about following it.

In the time you took to sign up for this forum and write your question you could have gone onto Google and done your own, key phrase-specific search.

As for a one year masters in marketing and branding, well, one year isn't enough. I've been involved in the world of design for print, marketing, branding, and copywriting for 27 years and I'm still learning.

Applying to these course is one thing, getting in is another, graduating yet another thing, and then, and of far greater importance ... is the value you'll be to a potential employer as a result of your studies: this quality is another apart from the getting onto the course and graduating from it.

This is where the rubber meets the road, and to get on in this business you need to be willing to ... and there's no polite way of putting this ... you need to be willing and able to get off your ass and take responsibility for your own future: a lesson that every leading contributor on this forum has learned the hard way—by doing it.

Naturally, it's a fair bet that you're probably not going to like everything you've just read and that you'll be tempted to fire off some pithy retort to put me in my place. But before you do, think through everything I've written and then take a moment to look at your life as it will be 5 years from now as you go down two roads, one of which you took because you took responsibility, the other you took because you expected and thought you deserved a free ride.

One of those roads leads to a place of meaningful value, the other does not. You can choose only one road.

    Choose wisely.
