Who is your primary target audience? Where? What is your industry/product category? What makes you different from, and better than, others in the same category? What unique and important benefit do you provide for your target audience?

If you will give us some specifics we can almost certainly help you. Without those details, the best we can do is direct you to some general books or articles on branding and marketing.

Let's chill out here and take stock. First, I'd like to know what your company is, what it does, or what it supplies. I'm saying this because I can pretty much guarantee that your idea of what a brand is and my idea of what a brand is are as different as night and day.

Until you are doing HIGHLY specific things for your customers you might have a product, you might offer a service, you might even offer great solutions, but what you may NOT have is a brand worth talking about.

Is anyone aware of your brand in the area? If so, what are they saying about it? What do they like? Don't? What do they think about your company's products/services? What's their perception about how you compare to the competition? Is what you're offering dramatically better than the competition? Why or why not? How often would people think to purchase your offering? When?

I agree with Gary above. However, there are ways to get around this sort of thing, and my favourite is the Google Display network. You can also try Facebook advertising for that sort of thing but do make sure you have a really interesting landing page for your customers - that way they will hopefully enjoy it and share it.

... all of which means sorting mine out!!

To be more specific, right now I am dealing with two companies, they have asked me to gain attention of more clients to use their services. And I would like to go in the direction of building a brand for them.

One is an existing airport shuttle service that provides direct transportation to and from LAX; it is a private service so you dont have to wait til the passenger next to you gets dropped off before you do with affordable rates.

The other business is a newly established dental clinic which opened doors this year and would like to spred the word of their new office.

Mr. Bloom, if you dont mind, I would like to hear what your idea of a brand is?

Thank you all for responding to my question.

    Bloomer, not Bloom.

A brand is not your logo or the colors and typefaces you use. It's not what you sell, make, or provide. It can't be weighed, measured, or quantified—at least, not with a scale. A brand is not your company name or your place of business. A brand is every feeling, emotion, and memory you and the delivery of your service create: every turn of phrase, every smile "Hi, hello" thank you for your business!" and every promise you make, keep, and that you then massively over-deliver on.

A brand is how you make people feel, it's how you make an impression, it's every little thing you do again and again that makes the receipt of your service or product a REAL pleasure to pay for, to comment, on, and to then deem worthy enough to tell other people about in the best of all possible ways.

Nail this and do so consistently and you'll have a brand that's bulletproof, watertight, and shockproof.
