Flippy Transitions Or Fade And Slide

Posted by dan88k on 25 Points
Hi,

was wondering on your thoughts. I am able to add more html commetns etc to a basic fade / slide slider which obviously would be seen by the search engines.

but the transitions are alot more eye catching for the customer. So i was wondering it google etc percieve keywords etc within a banner to be of higher value than say an H1 tag.

Unless it is worth alot, i think i might stick to the more appealing slider ( customer feedback )

You are serving two masters here.

    Google, and your customer.

Google is trying to be your customer, only they are using an algorithm to do so. That is not an easy thing to do! For Google, the higher the placement, the bigger the lettering the more important it is.

For your customers, it is far less easy. Their needs are a lot more diverse, more to the point, you can't sell stuff to computers you can sell it to humans. Ergo: they are where the buck stops. Your site is cool and will attract a slice of the market that appreciate good design.

BTW why are you not buying advertising? You can scale it, tweak it and it is a lot more stable than just waiting for a gust of wind (= coming up high in the search rankings). I am not sure if any of my sites rank above page 14 ... and it doesn't matter as long as my Adwords/Facebook adverts are cheap ...

I hope this helps a little. Gem xx

Your animation is both distracting and doesn't improve the message that you're trying to convey. Unless you have proof that the newer animation is better (split test, for example), keep the distractions to a minimum and improve your messaging.

Ouch .. really got that wrong then. Asked quite a few people to compare ( previously had both flat banner pic & also a siple fade effect ). 90% of people asked to compare selected the "wizzy" transition. Thats why i went with it.

My login was 1. go with whatever potential customers want.

    2. If i had something distracting going on and my site was selling TV's then i can understand why its distracting from my product. However as my product is website then again that leans towards the design being what people are favoring.

I'm not saying this is the right way to go, so I do take your comments onboard. It's not a simple one to be sure. Then again thats why i'm here for advice :)

The Cat's Whiskers : Thanks for the feedback. Yep i was coming from the angle of go with the customer feedback.

TBH, the only reason i asked the q was because i had mentioned to a developer of a very good slider ( best seller ) why he did not add a few more transitions to his product. basically saying he could clean uo as that was all that was missing from his app.

his answer was they were not needed. 1/2 expected him to say that BUT it did plant a seed of doubt so i wanted to see what u guys thought.
    cheers dan
