Opinion On Logo Design - Pick Between The Two

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
We are working on narrowing down our logo design for a client that has a dermatology clinic. Needing an opinion on which you would choose between the two. Target audience is 50 to 60 years of age. Pick between the two and let me know you opinion.

One is script style logo which the client has shown as a preference and the other is a logo for the symbolism behind the 7 layers of skin.

Logo 1: https://flic.kr/p/dUurMT

Logo 2: https://flic.kr/p/dUus46

If your target audience is mostly women, I'd choose logo 1.
The meaning of logo is obscure, and not relevant to your target audience (who are concerned about their appearance - the outermost layer(s)).

    * The meaning of logo 2 is obscure (sorry for typo)

The first one is nicer, although the curly letters aren't that clear.

The second one is obscure as Jay says. You could go for a thumb-print style of wave that says "skin" and "intimate" without being obvious. Where the waves sort of make a crest?

Not sure what the question is: Which do I like better? Or which will communicate the right message to your target audience?

If it's which I like better, then #2 wins. The script DC in #1 is too confusing, not clear what it is/means. (The waves in #2 are not much better in terms of communicating anything, but at least they don't confuse.)

If it's which will communicate the right message to the target audience, I have no idea. Why not research it among that audience? Maybe they're both lacking in some way. (What ARE you trying to communicate?)

I agree with mgoodman, I prefer #2 but the "waves" logo mark (or bug) doesn't seem to add anything to your messaging. It's just a generic graphic element.

Did the client provide a Creative Brief that lays out the communication objective? If so, what are the design specs? What criteria are the client using to evaluate your creative product?

If not, you might want to clear that up before you get into a subjective "I just don't like that" discussion. More often than not, those kinds of discussions turn a relationship sour. Another good reason why a good Creative Brief is in both your and the client's best interests.

What anyone here likes or not is irrelevant: you need to be testing your ideas with potential clients.

I'm sorry but I don't care for either of them. the first one is too feminine and it makes me think SPA and the second looks like water. If it's supposed to be skin then I don't like that thought either. It's just that none of them are very unique or stand out. I don't mean to offend. This is my professional opinion.

I think you need to start over and look at your customer base and if you are more into rejuvenation and fillers or into teen acne then focus on that. Skin health is big right now and I would use that in the logo.

I am in marketing AND your client's demographic....and to me the second one wins hands down!

So now that you have 7 or 8 comments and votes, what are you going to do with them? And if you had a dozen more, how would that help?

I don't understand the goal or expected use of the results of this exercise. Can you share with us?

I prefer the second one but considering your target audience preferences, the first one looks like more suitable for them.

I liked option 2. I got the reference to the layers of skin without too much issue and I like the text layout better, seems more beneficial from a usable perspective in terms of additional marketing material they may with to create.
