Now if corporations like Starbucks started paying their taxes here in Europe I'd be a little happier with corporation's attitudes to things like CSR. Sure, this is cynical - to my mind it's a case of who is being more cynical, the corporations or me?

If they're using CSR as a marketing tool that means they're expecting something in return ... so it's not a case of them just giving, is it? They're giving their money with the clear expectation that it will be recognized that they're the ones giving it. The way I look at things, if you give, you give and nobody need know who gave and who took.

If you make an investment, that's a very different story. Then you're making judgements. Giving freely means giving without judging.

You couldn't invent it. Here's Alex Masterly, demon banker of the Daily Telegraph in the UK explaining his take on CSRs ;-)

Ideally, Cause Marketing can both benefit non-profits and their for-profit partner - a clear win-win (for both organizations) and for society at large (win-win-win).
