What type of event? For what type of attendees? For what goal? Where? With what budget? Why would someone want to attend live (rather than see video of it or photos)?

My guess is that your goal is to get more people separating their waste?

Many area that require separating recyclables have posters that show what goes in each bin - maybe you make some sort of demonstration (piles of each type of material for each bin, filled bins of the stuff, or similar) as a display showing what goes where.

Another option (or maybe run together) is to show examples of what the recycled materials can become, promoting the benefit of recycling. Clothing made out of recycled bottles, clean dirt made from compost, aluminum parts made from cans, etc.

Following on from Peter's bright idea - you could have a competition that asks which kind of rubbish goes in which bin. For example a thin piece of plastic, a large plastic bottle (that won't fit through the hole!) a glass bottle and a metal can. They could be electronically tagged so that something happens when they go in the wrong bin (a noise, the floor shakes, the bin pops it back out etc) and if they get it right it makes a gobbling sound - if they get all four (or however many there are) they get a prize.

Just make sure they get a prize for trying too ;-)
