Predict Content Performance Like Inboundwriter

Posted by hillmanscontent on 125 Points
InboundWriter says that they have developed a predictive analytics model for content, which demonstrates that it’s possible to predict content performance with just two user inputs (publishing website and article topic) plus a combination of other known factors (e.g., competition, popularity, content type, cannibalization, etc.).

They go on to say that because they can predict content performance before the content is even written, and suggest content you can write where you will have a high probability of success, they say they add a ton of value.

They look at a range of different analytics based on providing them the topic and target website for the content, including popularity data, competitive data, trends and other analytics they collect about user behavior.

They take into account the site where a user will publish a given piece of content. Scours the web to find hundreds, sometimes thousands, of competitive content pieces on the same subject. Based on these two pieces of data, determines how your website will perform relative to competitors.

They go on to say that they:

* Identify the factors that determine the success of an article before it is written.

* Forecast expected performance of a given article topic in terms of the web traffic it will drive to a given website.

* Suggest a menu of related, alternative topics that allow the user to balance editorial goals with expected performance.

* Provide precise guidance on title and content composition that will maximize impact yet not disrupt the writing process.

* (For advanced users) Offer sophisticated analytics and data regarding the root cause of projected topic performance, including insights on: reader demand for that content, competitive content, topic uniqueness / cannibalization, optimal content type for the given topic (multi-media, e-commerce, text-based, etc.), and more.

If an individual wanted to do it themselves and not use the InboundWriter service they might need to answer some or all of these questions:

* Which topics drive the most traffic on the specific domain you want to publish on?

* Which keywords are driving the most traffic on the specific domain you want to publish on right now?

* How difficult is the competition for a specific article topic or keyword on the website I want to publish on?

* How popular is the topic or keyword on the domain I want to publish?

* What types of content get the most traffic on the website I want to publish on?

I've found the tools one would use to accomplish the same thing and I have been successfully operating them to achieve the exact same thing. However, I'm interested to find out if anyone else can come up with a better answer than me.

Therefore, my exact question is:
How can an individual accomplish the same thing (without using InboundWriters service) using a variety of available online tools?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Your bullet point questions above can all probably be answered with "It depends" … on the niche, on the target, on the reader, on the interest, on the site, on the appeal … and so on.

The downside to using lots of online tools is that yo've got to then log into lots of various dashboards to get at the information you're looking for, which takes time and effort. The service you're talking about is offering convenience. If you want an easy life, there's usually a cost involved. if you want to do things on the cheap, there's usually another kind of cost involved. Therefore, time and money are inversely proportional: you can save lots of one by spending lots of the other. Choose wisely.

Hello Gary, thanks for your answer. I'm well aware that it's a tool of convenience. That goes without saying. Also, I am not looking for answers to the bullet point questions. If you read all the way to the bottom of my post I stated that my exact question is:

How can an individual accomplish the same thing (without using InboundWriters service) using a variety of available online tools?

In other words, I'm looking for online tools that one could use to accomplish the same thing that the InboundWriter service accomplishes.

    Thanks for your comment Gary.

I'd start by using the free tools https://www.google.com/trends/ and https://adwords.google.com/KeywordPlanner. The first would give you trend lines and the latter would give you search volume.
