Do you have a positioning statement? A USP that reverberates with your clientele? A measurable goal for your branding efforts? If not, start there.

What is the objective? What does success look like? Who is the target audience? Where?

Your company produces an item(s)
Your customer makes it a brand
Your job is to find what that customer(s) want/need and place it where the purchase (at the right price and the right time)
That funnel will give you all the information you need - amazon is huge, but the name/brand meant nothing in the beginning...what does Zappos name/brand have to do with shoes?
Worry about how to serve your market, they will tell you what is best
