Marketing Strategy For Stone, paving Building Suppl

Posted by darrenoregan2 on 125 Points
Ive just started a new marketing role for a business which is also my first marketing role after college. the business sells a range of products eg decorative stone, paving, sheds, sleepers, building products, concrete products the list goes on. The business itself has never had anyone in my role before so they do not have many expectations just getting the name out there. It has given me freedom to be creative Eg selling on done deal designing a brochure, selling the business over the phone to building contractors and putting input into there website with the help of a professional. All fantastic experience but im wondering is there anything major that i should be doing that im missing out on ? its been a great expierience thus far but i want them to benifit from me as much as they can so the business is thriving in the future. any tips would be much appreciated.

Thank you

What a great opportunity you have!

The first thing you need to do is learn all you can about the primary target audience. Who are they? Where? What do they look for in a supplier? How do they evaluate (and select) suppliers? Which suppliers do they like particularly? Why? What are their greatest unmet needs? What do they wish they had? What keeps them awake at night? Etc.

If possible schedule face-to-face informational interviews with a few of them. Ask high-gain questions and take detailed notes. Really get to know them. Don't try to sell anything. You only get to be naive once, so make the most of the opportunity.

What you learn during this initial experience will form the foundation for your value and contributions to your company. Don't skip it in your eagerness to make a quick contribution. (If you do this well, you might even end up selling (or pre-selling) a big job in the process!)

Thank You for the quick response at the moment are target audience are the general public ranging from young familes to older generations starting new projects in there own personal spaces. When it comes to contractors i work off CIS reports where they are also a target for us. The CIS Reports show us all the projects going on in our region so it gives us contact details on who to ring. Now when we supply to these contractors it usually stone as the get concrete etc from major suppliers. we are only a small business compared to them but we can build a relationship with them for future projects would be huge for us. is there any other way for me as a young marketer ie idea to expand this business as much as i can. Ive been given alot of trust and want to give my full potential.

You've told us what YOU want to do, but you haven't said anything about the BENEFIT your primary target audience should expect if they deal with you. Marketing is all about understanding your target audience and delivering what they want/need.

How will your target audience be better off when they deal with your company? What unique and important benefit do you deliver that makes you different from, and better than, your competitors? Until you understand that it's impossible to market effectively.

As for your target audience, "the general public" and "contractors" are very different in terms of their needs and the benefits they seek. Pick one and focus your efforts. There will be time later to pick up business from other markets.
