Marketing Manager And No Company Mobile

Posted by lynnekeary on 250 Points
My new role as Marketing Manager for an International start-up in new energy and I have been asked to come up with the strategy. However the position does not come with a phone, only sales staff on the road are issued phones.

How would you approach is?

Why is your having a phone necessary to create/implement the strategy? (I assume you will have a landline, just not issued a mobile business phone for your use.)

I would start this like any Marketing Strategy project -- by understanding who the target audience is and what's important to them. (Your lack of a mobile phone should give you the freedom to focus on your task without distraction.) You may want to commission some basic consumer research, if the company hasn't already done so.

You also need to understand the company's perceived mission. Do they have a solid business plan? If so, familiarize yourself with it and ask questions if you don't understand it.

A mobile phone is a tool, and also a perk.

Do you NEED a mobile to do your job? If not, then do the job without it. If you do need it, then consider whether with the other compensation you get you could cover the cost of the phone and if so, pay for it yourself. I wouldn't let something as small as a phone get in the way of what sounds like a good job.

Only if you need the phone and you can;t afford to pay for one yourself do you have a problem.

There are other ways to market a product, mostly through the Internet. Influencer marketing is an interesting example I've came across lately and already put to use, you might be interested in reading this too: https://www.publicfast.com/brand
