Closing The Sale!

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Our company sells a service to law enforcement agencies that is used to send public safety alerts to the community. It is web-based, so no equipment or software is needed. I have 3 pending contracts that I would like to get closed in 2 days. I've made phone calls and sent emails within the last 45 days. Of course time off for the holidays has prevented me from speaking with a couple of them.

I know I probably won't get them back in 2 days, but, does anyone have any ideas of what I could do in the future to close the sale! Because they are gov't agencies, I can not send them gifts of value.

Sounds like you are trying to make end of quarter/year numbers. Instead of gifts for them, a better route may be a discount if they close before year end.

That said, the sales folks at a company I used to work for did this a lot, and I never thought it was good. They would make that end of quarter push and often discount products just to close the sale, yet if they waited a week, they would be able to close the sale at a higher price. The logic of this (from a company's perspective) escaped me, as they are giving up lots of income just to get the sale moved forward a short amount of time. But the salesperson commission plan was set such that this made sense for salespeople.

The entire sales process should revolve around showing the value of your product, overcoming objections, and helping the customer get through their internal process of approving and buying the product.

Oh, your comment about gifts surprised me. I would never try to 'buy' a sale by giving a gift (even if it wasn't against their rules). I guess in some countries this is allowed and expected, but as someone who grew up in America and has to follow American rules, I would have trouble with it.
