Re-editing Your Answer After Its Submission - Yes Or No?

Posted by Anonymous on 100 Points
Answering one question recently I realized two days later I'd like to add one more thought to it, but I didn't want to add it as a new answer...

What do you think?

Would it be pragmatic to have a possibility to re-enter and re-edit or supplement your existing answer(s)? Wouldn't it be more transparet to the reader?

P.S.: Only first ten contributions will be awarded by 10 points each :o)

Although at first it seems like a good idea, I realized later that the asker is not going to re-read every post just in case someone made a change. I wouldn't.

Therefore the structure as we have it. Any addendums or corrections can be brought to the readers attention more effectively by having them as new posts, then people can go back to your original answer to see what you mean.

    Just my two cents!

I do not think it would be pragmatic because the times when I have wanted to append/edit have been due to either:

    1) I didn't give my first answer enough thought, usually because I was in a hurry.

    2) I read somebody else's post after my post which triggered another thought.

For #1, it forces me to think more critically the first time - this is good, and I need to do this in my business world, so it keeps me on my game.

For #2, this is what creates a dialogue, which is part of the whole KHE forum.

Being able to append answers would degrade the purpose of #2.

For #1, it would make some people even less careful about the answers they give, also leading to degradation.

In addition, Jett's point is right-on, I second that.

    Good question!
