Why Will You Buy A Product 5 Months Before Launch?

would you buy somthing which will be launched after five months? when you have already two produtcs available in the market by competitors?
What will be the temptation for you to ignore that prodcut and wait for four months?

    Regardless...

    You should read Geoffrey Moore's books Crossing the Chasm and Inside the Tornado.

    In particular, the first book does a good job describing the motivations and behaviors of Early Adopters, Mainstream Buyers, and Luddites.

    Okay, so you have a legitimate business dilemma.

    You still haven't told us anything about the type of product you're launching or the market you're going after.

    Can you share more, or is it too dangerous to reveal? ;]

    I agree with Randall on need, not desire. So I don't think many people would pre-buy a competitor to blackberry in advance of its launch.

    The exception is for items which are much more desire based, such as a new sports car. In this case, there is some level of people who will pre-buy the car so they can be the first on their block.
