How Much Did They Pay For That Google Adword?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Or MSN or Overture? Is there a (free or cheap) way to tell, other than submitting a competitive key word bid?

I'm trying to figure out by how much we would be out-spent if I tried paid search advertising for online college courses from Kansas State University.

Any ideas?

    Hi Annes,

Last I checked with WordTracker a couple of weeks ago, Google does not make their CPC position information available. You have to setup an Ad Group and go for it as you mentioned.

Yahoo however does provide this information. You can access it if you have a WordTracker account, or through your keyword/categories in Sponsored Search, to find out exactly what to bid for depending on where you want to be.

MSN still uses Yahoo Search Marketing (formerly Overture) for pay-per-click although they will be changing this to an internal engine in the future, but for now it should be operating under the YSM conditions.

Since it only costs $5.00 to open a Google AdWords account, just set your daily maximum low, like $10.00, set up a campaign(s) and Ad Group(s) and check it out to see what it will cost. Your risk is low if you set a low daily max.

I am curious to see if anybody else knows of a 3rd party that supplies this info accurately. Since I run both Yahoo and Google accounts I get the information realtime and have never had a need for a 3rd party, but it could be of value if it is accurate and timely.

    I hope that helps!
