How To Calculate Market Share -fragmented Market

I am busy with a research with the intent of establishing the business case for a particular business. The challenge is to put together information on the market share since the industry is highly competetive and fragmented with various suppliers. Now how does one get information of the market share if one does not know how much the competition supply to the market.

What areas might have information on the subject matter?

    You could gather some intelligence on hoovers.com or zapdata.com. Look at the sales figures for the biggest players in your industry. Those numbers in total are likely to represent 80% of the industry-wide sales.
