To find out, Semrush analyzed 400 copywriter job postings on Indeed.com and also looked at findings from its State of Content Marketing: 2023 Global Report, which was based on data from 85,000 job posts and a survey of 1,700 marketers.

The researchers found that copywriters often have a number of responsibilities in addition to creating copy, such as developing the brand voice, collaborating with other teams, researching new ideas, and understanding marketing plans.

Top responsibilities of copywriters

The top skills and experiences that companies want from copywriters are excellent written and verbal communication skills, creativity, and at least four years of relevant experience.

Top 10 desired copywriting skills

The most common degrees cited in job postings for copywriters are marketing, writing, journalism, english, and communications.
