People age 18-24 are now using generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, nearly as often as Google to search for information,, according to recent research from Fractl and Search Engine Land.

The report was based on data from a survey of 1,000 people of various ages.

Some 77% of all respondents say they use Google regularly to search for information, and 49% say they use ChatGPT or similar AI chatbots to regularly search for information.

Among respondents age 18-24, some 69% say they use Google regularly to search for information, 66% say they use ChatGPT or similar AI chatbots, and 45% say they use AI-generated summaries from platforms like Google and Bing.

Some 49% of respondents say they still check traditional links when seeing search results from tools like Google or Perplexity with AI-generated summaries, 41% say they rely more on the AI summaries over clicking links, and 39% say they scroll less compared with traditional search.
