Need A Creative Name For My Web/graphic Business

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hello all.

I am starting up my own web design/graphic design business. My business offers website design, brochures, bus cards, flash presentations etc.

I would like something ending with the word 'design', 'studios', 'media' or 'creative;.

But i need a catchy/ rememberable first word.

I have some ideas so far like : sublime creative or pure media, but i would like to hear other ppl's views thoughts on them or any other ideas would be appreciative!

Thx
Rachel

I hope you want a name that's more than catchy and memorable. If that's all you want, try "Moron" or "Idiot" or "Bitch" or some other word that people will remember but that won't say anything about your unique positioning and value proposition.

My suggestion is that you start by defining your primary target audience -- the narrower the better. Then talk to a dozen people in that target audience and learn how they think, what they need/want that they aren't getting now, how they make decisions, who their most valuable suppliers are and why, etc. Don't try to sell your services. Just ask high-gain questions, listen to what they say, and take detailed notes.

Then, after 12-15 interviews, go over your notes and look for common threads that can lead to a unique positioning in your marketplace. Communicate that uniqueness in your name and any tagline you decide might be needed. And express it graphically (in a logo) so people get the idea that you are able to express concepts visually.

I'd say it's more important that the name communicate an important benefit than that it be memorable and catchy (but perhaps off-strategy).

    Rachel,
You can call it whatever you want. The name isn't really the message...unless you're counting on just that. (ToysRUs is a good example)

    Try OCD Media

Many people are familiar with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder but you would be Obsessively Creative Design Media. Then you can say "I'm OCD" and that'll open the conversation in an elevator.
