In Search Of A 'spiritual' Name

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
I'm looking for input to create a name for my new ministry. After getting some feedback on a name I felt was good, I've been convinced that it's not the right one to lead (literally and figuratively).

I'd like this forum to offer what it does best, some suggestions for creating a name that will help me to get 'out there'...online and eventually offline...in my ministry. I'll be happy to provide feedback as necessary, I'll try to check in daily. I have a website, which is (constantly) under development and refinement... < class="resplink" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.spiritual-spa.org> ...and I plan on using it (at least in part) to establish my ministry.

For some time, I've been ordained and want to combine my education, experience and talents into a (primarily at this time) virtual, or online ministry. You might call it a church, but I wouldn't want it to be confused with any orthodox religion currently being practiced. It could be called "New Age"...though that term is misused and misunderstood, so I'd rather not. It is metaphysical, for lack of a better description. The name should engender trust and faith first, while not mixing my message with other ministries dealing with the broad and largely misunderstood area called New Age.

I have a screen name on Yahoo that I've been using in connection with my ministry for over three year, onewithspiritjrnl, which I publish the One with Spirit Journal under...perhaps a variation on this?

Thanks in Advance,
Rev Debi Brady

Thanks Henry and Darci! I'm glad to see that I have some suggestions. Yes, the "One with Spirit" could be branded...I think...I'd need to do some research to make sure that someone hasn't already started branding it. Since "OWS" isn't an outstanding acronym for anything, I don't think I'd bother trying to brand it by itself.

    Hi Debi,

who does your ministry currently reach or another way to think of it is who does your ministry currently appeal to. Is there a specific age range you are tying to minister to? What type of religion is it or is it not a religion?

You say you want to avoid New Age although you feel it's misunderstood. Is it Metaphysical? Whatever it is there will be limits on those you specifically appeal to because of your position or do you take a position at all? I hope this helps you at least share with us what we need to know in order to offer you better instruction.

Now it appears that you have come to us for direction on a spiritual name when some who offer there answers here may not be spiritual minded at all...isn't that taking a bigger risk? I would think that being led by the spirit would be more than what you would need in this case. Well this is a very peculiar question which some may avoid just because of the spiritual implications. If they are uncomfortable with their own spiritual walk they may struggle with feeling comfortable with giving you advice. Is there anything else I can do for you?

In order for us to help you with a name, we need to step back and understand who your primary target audience is. The more specific and targeted the better.

Then we'll need to know what that target audience needs/wants that they are not getting today. What are their greatest unmet needs (in the area of spiritual fulfillment)?

From that you should and can develop a positioning statement for your ministry.

THEN it's time to figure out what the name should be. If you take the steps out of order, you'll definitely sub-optimize and end up with a less-than-ideal name.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), you can't skip the part with the hard questions. Remember that marketing is all about delivering on unmet consumer needs. Until you understand those very well, and have taken careful aim at a narrow (and well-defined) target audience, everything we might suggest is throwing darts at the board with a blindfold on.

Thanks, Michael, et al...I know I can't "skip the hard questions"...I do plan on doing some market research, but thought this forum might be a good place to throw name ideas around.

I'll keep the question open for a little while longer.

    Thanks again,

This may be totally off-base, but I like it so I thought I would go ahead and post it.

    In to the Light
    In to the Light Ministries

    Or for the younger generation

    N 2 the Light

    Just some suggestions.

Wow, there are some really good name suggestions!

I visited this the first day you put it up (it helped you told us you were asking it. lol) and I feel obliged to say that, after genuinely considering it ... you might do well to use your own name.

Award yourself a little gravity. You are the minister. You're the guide or helper or whatever you're positioning yourself as. As wonderful as some of the names are, they're a bit inflated on the promise.

However (for instance) Reverend Debi Brady's Ministry: The Light Path has a little more transparency of purpose. And truth.

Great job...I like some of the suggestions. I'm going to keep this question open through the weekend. Keep 'em coming!

BTW: I'm leaning toward a couple of my own, I'll let you know when I decide.

    Blessings and Thanks,
